Mortgage Protection Insurance in Plano
We start by reading your mortgage terms and the coverage you already carry, then tell you plainly whether there is a gap. If there is, we show you policies that match the balance and the years left on the loan, and you decide.

How mortgage protection insurance works
Mortgage protection is life coverage designed around a single debt: the mortgage a client carries. If the insured person dies within the policy term, the payout lets the family keep up the payments or clear the balance. Some policies add disability or critical illness riders that can help cover payments while someone is living but cannot work.
It comes in two main forms. A decreasing policy pays less as the loan balance falls. A level policy, typically term life, keeps the same payout for the whole term and pays the beneficiary you pick instead of the lender, so your family chooses how to spend it. We go over both and tell you which suits you.
We review your existing coverage before recommending anything. Plenty of clients in Plano and nearby Frisco and Allen have group life through their employer and are not sure it would stay with them after a job change. You get our findings first, in plain language.
What our review and policy help cover
Going over your loan terms
We record today's balance, whether the rate is fixed or adjustable and how many years remain. Those three figures decide how large and how long any worthwhile coverage should be.
A list of the coverage you hold
We write down every policy you have, employer group life included, and check what each would really pay and for how long. At times the honest finding is that you are already covered.
Level and decreasing compared
We show how each option's payout shifts over the loan and who gets it. You see the trade-off in writing before you pick.
Riders made clear
Disability, critical illness and return-of-premium riders all raise the price. We explain what each one does and skip any that do not fit you.
Quotes from several carriers
We line up similar policies so the gaps in price and underwriting are visible. Every quote uses the same benefit and term, keeping the comparison even.
Support from application to delivery
We take care of the paperwork, keep you informed through underwriting and read through the issued policy with you one page at a time.

Signs it is time to look at mortgage protection
- You recently closed or refinanced
- A new loan or a new balance means your old coverage may no longer match. This is the best moment to check, while your health and age are working in your favor.
- One income carries the payment
- If the mortgage depends mostly on one paycheck, losing that income would put the loan at risk quickly. Coverage on that earner matters most.
- Your only life coverage is through work
- Group policies often end when employment ends and may pay a multiple of salary that falls short of the balance.
- The mail is full of offers
- After closing, many clients receive letters that look official and push one product. We can tell you what those offers really are and whether any of them make sense.
- Your policy ends before the loan does
- A term that expires years before the final payment leaves the last stretch uncovered. We check the dates line up.
How the process runs
- 1
An unhurried first conversation
We talk by phone or meet at your office, whichever suits your day. Have a recent mortgage statement and any policy documents nearby if you can.
- 2
Plain findings
We tell you what your current coverage would do for your family today and where it falls short, if it does. No recommendation comes before this.
- 3
Options and quotes
If a gap exists, we show two or three policies that close it, with the cost, term and beneficiary arrangement for each. Take time to think it over.
- 4
Application and underwriting
Some policies issue on health questions alone. Others ask for a short paramedical exam, which can usually be scheduled at your workplace. We keep you posted until a decision comes back.
- 5
Policy review
When the policy arrives, we go through it with you and confirm the beneficiary details are exactly as you intend.
What sets the price of mortgage protection
The premium comes down mainly to how much coverage you need and for how long, along with the age and health of the insured person. We build each quote around your real loan instead of a round figure. Before you agree to anything, you see what each choice adds.
- Balance and time left on the loan
- A bigger balance or more remaining years calls for more coverage and a higher premium. Lining the term up with the loan keeps you from paying for years you will not need.
- Your age and health
- Younger, healthier people usually pay less. Tobacco use and some medical histories push the price up, at times by a lot.
- Type of policy and underwriting
- Decreasing coverage tends to cost less than level coverage. No-exam policies are easy but frequently cost more than fully underwritten ones.
- Added riders
- Disability, critical illness and return-of-premium options each raise the premium. We quote them one by one so you can judge each on its own.
Mortgage protection questions
- Is mortgage protection insurance the same as PMI?
- No. Private mortgage insurance protects the lender if you stop paying. Mortgage protection insurance protects your family by paying a benefit if the person the policy covers dies, and sometimes if they become disabled.
- Who receives the benefit, the lender or my family?
- It depends on the policy. Some traditional mortgage protection products pay the lender directly. A level term policy pays the beneficiary you name, who can then pay off the loan or use the money elsewhere. We will tell you which arrangement each quote uses.
- Would regular term life work instead?
- Often, yes. Level term life sized to your balance can cost about the same and gives your family more flexibility. We cover this in more depth on our Term Life Insurance page, and we compare both during your review.
- Do I need a medical exam?
- Not always. Simplified-issue policies rely on health questions only. Fully underwritten policies may need a short exam but can come in at a lower premium for healthy applicants. We explain the trade-off before you apply.
- What happens to my policy if I refinance or sell?
- A level term policy stays in force as long as premiums are paid, whatever happens to the loan. A decreasing policy tied to the original mortgage may no longer fit. We can review it again whenever the loan changes.
