Whole Life Insurance in Plano
Whole life is coverage meant to last your entire life, with a premium that stays level and cash value that builds slowly. Before we suggest a policy, we look over what you already own and tell you plainly whether whole life fits.

How whole life works and when it fits
Whole life pays your beneficiary whenever you die, provided the premiums are kept up. The premium is fixed at issue and does not climb as you age. A share of every payment goes to cash value, which grows on a guaranteed schedule and can later be borrowed against.
Because it lasts for life, it costs more than term for the same face amount, so it is not right for everyone. It usually fits a need that never ends: a spouse relying on your income for life, a child with special needs, final costs you want handled, or a business partner buyout with no end date.
We keep it straightforward. First we go through your current policies and workplace coverage, then explain our findings plainly. At times the better answer is term life or universal life, and if so, we tell you.
What our whole life service covers
- Going through your current coverage
- We look at your existing policies, workplace group coverage and any older cash value contracts. Before anything new comes up, you get a plain summary of face amounts, beneficiaries and gaps.
- A coverage amount you can trace
- We figure out how much permanent coverage you need, one line at a time. Debts, replaced income, final costs and legacy goals each get a separate figure.
- Quotes from several carriers
- The same coverage can be priced differently from one insurer to the next. We line up the options and explain why a given carrier may view your health history more favorably.
- The fine print in plain words
- We flag early-year surrender charges, show how unpaid policy loans shrink the benefit, and mark which dividend figures are estimates and not guarantees.
- Setting up beneficiaries and ownership
- We help you list primary and contingent beneficiaries properly and choose who should own the policy. Getting these small details right spares your family real problems down the road.
- Regular check-ins
- A marriage, a birth or a change in your business can alter what you need. We look at the policy again with you so it stays in step with your life.
When whole life is worth considering
A term policy is running out
When term coverage ends within a few years and you still need protection, renewing at an older age can cost a lot. Converting some of it or adding a permanent policy is worth comparing.
Someone will rely on you for life
An adult child who depends on you or a spouse with no retirement income needs coverage that never runs out. That is the need whole life is designed for.
You plan to leave a fixed sum
Some clients want a specific amount to go to children, grandchildren or a cause. A permanent policy pays that sum no matter when it is needed.
Your business has a plan for succession
Buy-sell agreements and key person setups often depend on permanent coverage. We check how the policy is owned so it does what the agreement calls for.
You own an old policy that is a mystery to you
Plenty of people hold a whole life policy bought long ago without knowing its cash value or loan balance. A close read often turns up options they never knew about.
How we work through it with you
- 1
A first conversation by phone
We ask about your family, your work and what you want the coverage to accomplish. Bring any policy paperwork you have nearby.
- 2
Reading your current coverage
We review each policy and benefit statement, then walk you through what we found. You will know exactly what you own before we talk about anything new.
- 3
An honest recommendation
We explain whether whole life, another type of coverage, or a mix fits best, and we show the trade-offs. You decide at your own pace.
- 4
Application and underwriting
Most whole life policies involve health questions and sometimes a short paramedical exam. We prepare you for what the carrier will ask and keep you updated while they review.
- 5
Delivery and review of the policy
When the policy arrives, we go through it page by page with you. We confirm beneficiaries, premium schedule and riders match what you approved.

What drives the price of whole life
A whole life premium is fixed at the outset and never changes, so the starting factors carry weight for decades. Rather than giving you one number, we show how each factor moves your quote. Adjusting the face amount or the payment schedule is often the simplest way to bring the premium down to a comfortable level.
- Your age when you apply
- Every year you wait raises the level premium you secure. Applying at a younger age generally means a clearly lower cost for life.
- Health and tobacco
- Carriers give you a rating class based on medical history, build and tobacco use. A stronger class can cut the premium a lot, which is why the right carrier match matters.
- Size of the benefit
- The face amount accounts for most of the cost. We help you pick a figure based on real needs instead of a round number.
- How long you pay
- Some policies are paid for your whole life, while others are paid up in ten or twenty years or by age 65. Shorter schedules cost more each year but finish sooner.
- Added riders
- Extras like a premium waiver if you become disabled or an accelerated benefit for a serious illness raise the cost. We point out which ones are worth it for you.
Common questions about whole life
Something not covered here? (972) 573-7867
What separates whole life from term life?
Term life runs for a fixed number of years and then stops, usually at a far lower premium. Whole life stays in force for your lifetime and builds cash value. Plenty of clients in Plano and nearby Frisco and Allen hold some of each.
Should I treat the cash value as an investment?
It builds at a guaranteed but modest pace, and some policies pay dividends that are not guaranteed. Think of it as a steady reserve within your coverage rather than a stand-in for retirement savings. We cover that side separately in our retirement income planning work.
Is borrowing against my policy allowed?
Yes, after cash value has grown you can take a policy loan. It charges interest, and any balance left unpaid comes out of your beneficiary's payout. We show you the impact before you borrow.
What if I stop making premium payments?
Based on the policy, you might cash it in for its cash value, switch to a smaller paid-up policy, or let cash value carry the coverage for a while. Cashing out in the first years generally returns less than you put in.
Is it smart to replace an old whole life policy?
Usually not, since a new policy starts surrender charges over and is priced at the age you are now. We look at the existing policy first and recommend a change only when the numbers plainly work in your favor.
Find out what your coverage really does
We will read through your current policies, explain what we see in plain language, and tell you whether whole life belongs in your plan. There is no pressure to decide on the call.
